Adopt without asking
No application, fee or approval. Publish your evidence and say which level you're at.
Three honest levels
| Level | What you can claim | What it is not |
|---|---|---|
| Exploring | You're interested and you've written down your gaps. | Any conformance claim at all |
| Implemented (self-reported) | You've published evidence links for the pillars you meet. | Independent certification |
| Independently reproduced | An outside reviewer has reproduced your claim and published their method and results. | A permanent badge. Claims are tied to a version and a date. |
Partial adoption is normal. "4 of 6 pillars evidenced, help wanted on the other two" is a good claim to make.
Self-assessment checklist
- Code and rights: a real licence or dedication for your original code, plus a dependency inventory with licences.
- Development: specs, decisions, agent and tool versions where known, tests, and build instructions a stranger can follow.
- Data: a working export and import, documented data boundaries, and AT Protocol where it applies, or an honest note on why it doesn't yet.
- Operations: a deployment and rollback procedure with no secret steps, backup and restore, and a path to another host.
- Economics: dated, sourced costs. Billed, estimated and donated costs are kept separate, and unknowns are marked unknown.
- Governance: open proposals, documented decisions, and a succession plan that doesn't run through one person.
The full criteria are in the conformance section. For a machine-readable record, start from templates/open-infrastructure.example.yaml. It's an illustrative template, not a working integration.
